Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec Celebrates Bastille Day in London

I took a treck south of the river Thames to Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec to celebrate Bastille Day courtesy of Grey Poupon mustard.

The proprietors Herve and Natalie Regent, along with their two sons, Nolan and Florent, have put together a special four course meal with Grey Poupon mustard featuring in every course (even the dessert!).

Herve and Natalie have run The Lobster Pot (a 5 minute walk from either Kennington Station or Elephant and Castle stations) for 22 years and approx five years bought the pub next door and called their two sons back from their culinary lives to run the new Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec.

Mom and Dad keep their hand in but generally the sons run the brasserie which has become well known for the jazz sessions held upstairs in the bar area.

For one week, 9th - 14th July the brasserie will have a special menu (the one that we previewed) to highlight France's national day - Bastille Day (don't worry, I will only sing the national anthem in my head!). This event gives Londoners a great excuse to sample some great French food.

Our meal started with champagne and appetizers. Then we proceeded to a private dining room to commence the special meal.

First course was Crispy Filo Tuna, Herb Salad, Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard Ice-Cream. There is a moment of confusion when the brain tastes cold ice cream but the flavour is mustard but it went very well with the lightly seared tuna.

Next we had Guinea Fowl Breast, Shredded Cabbage and a Grey Poupon Wholegrain Mustard Cream Sauce. The meat was beautifully tender with lots of flavour.

Followed by Deep Fried Camembert, Mixed Leaf Salad and a Grey Poupon Mystard and Honey Dressing. I love deep fried Camembert and this one had a clever fig middle which oozed out when you cut it open.

For dessert we were treated to an orange layer cake with a hint of Grey Poupon Mustard served with Cinnamon Cream. The little dollop of wholegrain mustard on the top was a bit too much for me but I just pushed it to the side. The cake was lovely and light.

We had a really relaxed meal and were entertained with Herve's stories of the trials and tribulations of running a restaurant for 22 years as well as an illustrious career in the culinary world.

I will be bringing Mr R here for an evening of food and jazz especially since we can get a train from our local train station right to Elephant and Castle train station.

I would like to thank Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec for inviting me to spend such a delightful evening.

If any of my readers would like a £5.00 discount off their set menu then quote BTL Heidi which will make it £27.00 for a four course meal.  Hope you enjoy it!!
